On Wednesday, Justin Sowersby found himself behind bars facing a felony assault / strangulation charge after he grabbed his girlfriend by her hair, drug her across the ground, urinated on her, kicked her, locked her in a room, punched her, and then strangled her until she was unconscious – because she tried to pack her things and leave while he was in the shower.
Here’s the police report from the MNPD:
OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO MELPARK DR IN RESPONSE TO A DOMESTIC ASSAULT. UPON ARRIVAL, OFFICERS LOCATED THE VICTIM WHO STATED TO OFFICERS THAT HER BOYFRIEND (JUSTIN SOWERSBY, WHO THE VICTIM LIVES WITH AT THE LOCATION) HAD JUST ASSAULTED HER. THE VICTIM HAD MANY VISIBLE INJURIES, WAS SOAKING WET, AND HAD RIPPED AND TORN CLOTHING.
THE VICTIM STATED TO OFFICERS TONIGHT, JUSTIN SOWERSBY STARTED TO HEAVILY DRINK. WHILE HE WAS IN THE SHOWER, SHE TRIED PACKING HER THINGS TO LEAVE HIM. THE VICTIM STATED WHEN HER BOYFRIEND GOT OUT OF THE SHOWER, HE GOT ANGRY AND BEGAN TO GRAB HER.
THE VICTIM STATED THE DEFENDANT GRABBED HER HAIR, AND BEGAN TO DRAG HER ACROSS THE GROUND. THE VICTIM STATED THE DEFENDANT THEN URINATED ON HER, WHILE SHE WAS ON THE GROUND CRYING. THE DEFENDANT THEN BEGAN TO KICK HER THREE TIMES WITH HIS FOOT.
THE VICTIM STATED THE DEFENDANT THEN DRAGGED HER INTO THE BATHTUB, AND LOCKED HER IN THE BATHROOM. THE VICTIM STATED THE DEFENDANT THEN CAME INTO THE BATHROOM, AND BEGAN TO PUNCH HER AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIMES. THE VICTIM STATED THE DEFENDANT THEN GRABBED HER NECK WITH BOTH OF HIS HANDS AND APPLIED PRESSURE. THE VICTIM STATED SHE THEN LOST CONSCIOUSNESS FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME.
THE VICTIM STATED SHE TRIED TO GET AWAY, AND WAS FINALLY SUCCESSFUL WHEN SHE THREW A GLASS BOTTLE AT THE DEFENDANT. THE DEFENDANT STATED SHE THEN RAN THROUGH HER APARTMENT COMPLEX BEGGING FOR HELP.
WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED ON SCENE, THEY FOUND THE VICTIM WITH A NEIGHBOR, WHO HAD HELPED THE VICTIM FIND TEMPORARY SHELTER UNTIL POLICE COULD RESPOND. THE VICTIM STATED TO POLICE THE DEFENDANT HAD FLED ON FOOT. OFFICERS SEARCHED THE AREA FOR THE DEFENDANT. THE DEFENDANT WAS FOUND INSIDE HIS BEDROOM, WHERE HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY.
THE VICTIM WANTED TO PROSECUTE THE DEFENDANT AND ALSO WANTED AN ORDER OF PROTECTION AGAINST THE DEFENDANT.WHEN THE DEFENDANTS IDENTIFICATION WAS RUN IN ARMS, HE HAD AN OUTSTANDING NCIC HIT FROM RUTHERFORD COUNTY WHICH WAS VERIFIED AND SUBMITTED BY THE DCSO RECORDS DIVISION.
Justin Sowersby posted a $5000 bond for Davidson county and was released from custody at 12:55 AM Friday morning, at which time he was transported to Rutherford County to be booked on his violation of probation charge. He was booked into Rutherford at 1:40AM, and released on bond at 2:29 AM. He will next appear in court on 03/14/18.
